I was looking at a Chinese Panda coin, it says this on it: first it has a bunch of chinese symbols, after that it says . 999 1/2oz Au, at the bottom of the coin it says 50.
What I am wondering, is this an actual 1/2 oz gold coin. Does the Au mean anything negative towards its value?

Au is the chemical symbol for gold. This must mean that the coin is 1/2 an ounce and 99.9% gold, with possibly a very very small percentage of other metals mixed in. It seems to me that this is a real gold coin, of course anyone can write anything on a coin that they want, but the Au certainly isn’t negative. Good for you, seems like a valuable coin.
AU means Almost Uncirculated
